Housing Assistance Payments for February 2026 have been processed! Please keep in mind, depending on the financial institution, it may take up to 72 hours for it to post to bank accounts.

SHA is monitoring federal funding and policy. At this time, there are no immediate changes to our programs, and we anticipate issuing Housing Assistance Payments for February and March as normal. We will share updates if anything changes. We remain committed to programs that provide stability and opportunity for the families we serve.

SHA is authorized by the City of Spokane, the City of Spokane Valley, and Spokane County under Washington State’s Housing Authorities Law. Although we administer federal funding, we are not a federal government body. In the case of a federal government shutdown, we will remain in close communication with our clients, partners, the public, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

If SHA must delay Housing Assistance Payments due to a federal government shutdown, program participants and property owners/managers must still comply with all program rules and regulations. Please note:

  • Participants are responsible for complying with the family obligations of the voucher. They are required to pay their portion of rent and otherwise comply with the terms of the lease.
  • Participants are not responsible for paying the portion of rent covered by SHA’s Housing Assistance Payment. SHA’s failure to pay the Housing Assistance Payment to the owner is not a violation of the lease. The owner may not terminate the tenancy for nonpayment of SHA’s Housing Assistance Payment.
  • SHA is not obligated to pay any late payment penalty if HUD determines that late payment is due to factors beyond SHA’s control.
  • Free legal help is available through WashingtonLawHelp.org and Northwest Justice Project (NJP). NJP provides legal assistance to eligible low-income families and individuals with civil (non-criminal) legal problems in Washington state. Tenant Counseling is also available through the Tenants Union of Washington State.
  • If landlords have questions or concerns, they can contact SHA by email at LLinfo@spokanehousing.org.

We will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available.
